Offshore personnel are trained to a standard where they can administer basic first aid on their own and provide assistance to the Offshore Medic when necessary. Offshore First Aid4 Day Course Content On completion of training successful candidates should be able to Understand the aims and principles of first aid Basic life support CPR including the use of defibrillators the use and maintenance of manual resuscitators manual suction devices oropharyngeal airways and oxygen supplies Treat injuries to bones muscles and joints Assess and treat a casualty who is wounded bleeding or shocked Manage an unconscious casualty Treat hypothermia hyperthermia and the effects of immersion Deal with poisons encountered offshore Treat a casualty who is suffering from an injury including the dressing and immobilisation of injured parts Deal with burns and eye injuries Treat inhalation of hot gases or smoke Assess and treat common major and minor illnesses Understand personal hygiene and the prevention of cross-infection during first aid procedures Transport a sick and injured patient safely and effectively by helicopter Administer entonox Communicate effectively in an emergency Understand the importance of record keeping and the use of first aid equipment Completion On successful completion of the course and final assessment the delegate will receive an HSE approved nationally recognised Offshore First Aid certificate. This is valid for 3 years. All delegates also receive a course pack including a first aid manual. Course Dates Every week Monday to Thursday Cost 445vat This is a HSE Approved 2-day course that complies with the Offshore Installations and Pipeline Works First Aid Regulations 1989. Personnel that are trained in Offshore First Aid must complete this course within 3 years of first qualifying. OffshoreFirstAidRefresher2Day Course Content This course offers an overview of all subjects covered on the 4-day Offshore First Aid course and also introduces any new techniques legislation or guidelines that have arisen since the delegate originally qualified. Completion On successful completion of the course and final assessment the delegate will receive an HSE approved nationally recognised Offshore First Aid certificate. This is valid for 3 years. All delegates also receive a course pack including a first aid manual. Course Dates Every week Thursday to Friday Cost 240vat This course is designed to upgrade the knowledge of personnel trained in basic Offshore First Aid to a level where they have the understanding and skills required to assist an offshore medic. In particular they are given the opportunity to practice and gain confidence in the use of a comprehensive range of medical equipment under the supervision of the offshore medic. OffshoreAdvancedTechniques1Day Course Content On completion of training successful candidates should be able to Understand the role of the advanced first aider Assess and record vital functions using a recording chart Monitor blood pressure Receive casualties and the use of triage Manage the unconscious casualty Transport a sick and injured patient safely and effectively by helicopter Administer oxygen Administer entonox Understand the use of injections in pain control Understand intravenous infusion Understand the use of intubation in Airway Management Understand the use of Defibrillators and operate safely Completion On completion of the course the delegate will receive a certificate of attendance. This is valid for 3 years. All delegates also receive a course pack including a first aid manual. Course Dates 1st 3rd Friday of every month This course can also be added to the 4 day and 2 day Offshore First Aid courses Cost 240vat This course is approved by the OLF and complies with requirements set out in the OLFNR recommended guidelines for safety and emergency training. OLF Basic First Aid5 Day Course Content Emergency organisation Aims and principles of first aid Head to toe survey Management of the unconscious casualty Bleeding and traumatic amputation Abdominal injuries Loss of circulation Head injuries Back and neck injuries Burns and caustic injuries including electrical and radiation Fractures Measuring blood pressure Chest pains cardiac illness Breathing difficulties and seizures Basic life support CPR including the use of defibrillators the use and maintenance of manual resuscitators manual suction devices oropharyngeal airways and Oxygen supplies Assisting the nursemedics in the administration of an infusion Cold injuries and the treatment of Hypothermia Mental reactions and dealing with stress during accidents and disasters Accident site with several injured - triage at the scene of an accident Chest injuries Completion On successful completion of the course the delegate will receive an OLF approved Basic First Aid Certificate. This is valid for 2 years. All delegates also receive a course pack including a first aid manual.
